About

Who I am

I teach Chemistry (and science more generally) in a secondary school. As a teacher and Head of Year, I build the tools and systems that I wish already existed - for my own classroom, and for anyone else who wants them.

Why I build things

Teaching repeatedly presents small problems that software can solve surprisingly well.

I build things fun, to save time and to generate solutions to problems that stop young people acheiveing. The first tool I built was to overcome limitations in MIS used by my school. As a fledling ECT 2 and Head of Year I didn't have the time each week to take an indepth look at behaviour data that required manual downloading, cleaning, parsing and analysing, so I built an automatically updating secure PowerBI dashboard which took all the administrative burden away. From there I wondered what else I could do and have saved people 100s of man-hours since. I hope in sharing these things people see that with the advent of AI they can solve problems more efficently than before

What I've made

A short list

  • Six (and counting) interactive Chemistry simulations covering bonding, rates, equilibrium and moles
  • Full GCSE chemistry and combined Science Flashcards - availible on Brainscape
  • A Revision Diary Web App - a student revision tracking platform with a parent companion
  • A set of classroom teacher tools, including a Random Student selector and quiz makers
  • Question-level assessment analysis systems for GCSE science mock examinations
  • AQA GCSE Chemistry: The Complete Companion - a published revision guide which last year reached 15 in educational work books on the Kindle store
  • Escape from Science Jail - An in class joke that spawned a customisable rouge-like inspired by a childhood classic "Pixel Dungeon"
